First National Bank stadium, or the Soccer city stadium, is one of the best available football stadia in South Africa. The third largest capacity stadium in the country is undergoing a big renovation work ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, wherein it’s set to host eight matches, including the Grand Finale.

The renovation work is mainly aimed to increase the seating capacity to around 90000 and improve the existing facilities – changing room, ventilation, lighting etc. More than a million South African Rand is being spent on this work. All these years, audiences were seated on plastic chairs, and now, the authorities are improving the infrastructure to provide more comfort. The shape of the stadium is circumferential, taking cue from the world-known African pottery.

The upper housing is aimed at increasing the capacity by twenty more thousands. What makes this construction unique and exquisite, is the fact that, no spectator shall be more than three hundred feet away from the action. They shall be as close to the action as possible, if not at a spitting distance. With The Wanderers in the city, famous for cricket, this stadium aims to provide a similar feel to all football maniacs in the city of Johannesburg.
